Hello there!
I’m excited to share what I’ve been working on in the studio recently. My latest projects are all about experimenting with one of my favorite materials—porcelain paperclay. I first discovered this fascinating medium during a short course with Lucy Cobb at West Dean College two years ago, and it’s been a game-changer for my work ever since.
Porcelain paperclay has a wonderful resemblance to the air-dry clays I used many years ago for my art dolls, but it’s far superior. The porcelain finish is smooth, white, and delicately translucent, making it perfect for the dreamy characters I love to create.
Right now, I’m working on a series of angels—yes, I know it’s only September, but in the world of craftsmanship, Christmas is always just around the corner! As always, my clay figures come from hidden places in my heart. They are born from daydreaming, vulnerability, and the tenderness of a sensitive soul, living through each creation.
This time, each angel will be holding a little house—a personal touch inspired by the medieval streets of Chichester, my present home, and Riga, the city where I grew up. It’s a meaningful symbol, connecting two places that are close to my heart.
I’m really excited about this series and hoping to showcase these pieces at the Ceramics & Printmakers exhibition at Oxmarket Gallery at the end of November.
Stay tuned for more updates, and let me know what you think of my latest creations!
