December 2024: "Print, Fire & Glaze" Exhibition

Posted by Maria Sharipo on

This December, I had the immense privilege of participating in the "Print, Fire & Glaze" exhibition at the Oxmarket Contemporary Gallery in Chichester. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase my work alongside a talented group of potters, ceramicists, and printmakers—each bringing their unique artistic journey and process to the exhibition.

The show drew an incredible amount of interest from both local art lovers and curious tourists. The vibrant energy in the gallery, filled with stunning works that bridged the worlds of ceramics and printmaking, was truly inspiring. The exhibition was not only a platform to share my work but also an opportunity to immerse myself in the creativity of others and explore new ideas and techniques.

One of the highlights of the exhibition was a joint talk held by potter Vasu Reddy and printmaker Sarah Mander. Their discussion about their artistic journeys was both thought-provoking and inspiring. They delved into the importance of play, experimentation, and the inherent unpredictability that lies within any artistic process. Their words reminded me of how crucial it is to embrace the unknown in the studio—to let go of rigid expectations and allow for moments of discovery, even if they take you in unexpected directions.

Vasu shared his approach to pottery, discussing the fascinating interplay of form and function, while Sarah spoke about the intricate balance between printmaking techniques and the spontaneous marks she creates on paper. Their collaboration and willingness to experiment were a powerful reminder that art is as much about the process as it is about the finished piece. I found their enthusiasm for exploration to be incredibly motivating.

As the exhibition wrapped up, I reflected on the numerous ways I had been inspired—not just by the work on the walls, but by the conversations with fellow artists and the community of people who visited the gallery. Being part of "Print, Fire & Glaze" was a reminder of the importance of artistic exchange and how much we can learn from each other’s practices. The show has reinvigorated my own creative energy, and I look forward to continuing to push boundaries in my own work.

If you happened to visit the exhibition, I hope you found as much inspiration as I did. If not, I encourage you to stay connected with Oxmarket Contemporary and explore the brilliant works of local artists and makers in future exhibitions.

Here's to embracing unpredictability, play, and experimentation in 2025—and beyond.
